15W-40 in Lawn Mower??? Bob Is The Oil Guy

Jan 29, 2005  Jan 28, 2005. #6. I can get the Delo in 15w-40 at work for free. The guys throw away the gallon jugs with several ozs left and I just take them and drain them all in one jug. This is why I was asking specifically about the 15w-40. I know the spec calls for 10w-30 or straight 30w due to the burn-off being a little greater with the multi weight.

15W-40 diesel motor oil for lawn mower - Bob is the Oil Guy

Apr 15, 2014  With small engines, the oil level is more important than the viscosity. I have used 15w40 diesel oil many times in my own equipment as well as customer's mowers. Many customers don't check the oil in their equipment, so I use the 15w40 as a safe way to prevent failure from the machine burning oil and lowering the oil level. Use it with confidence!

Rotella 15W-40 for various OPE? Bob Is The Oil Guy

Aug 17, 2016  That said, I do know tons of people here who run 40's in their OPE. It (shouldn't) hurt it, even I do. 0W-40 Rotella in my snowblower and my lawnmower has 15W-40 Rotella. Your primary concerns with running a multigrade oil in OPE is shear issues and burning up viscosity modifiers, but Rotella 15W-40 I can at least vouch, I've yet to have that ...

Aug 09, 2005  Diesels must have oil with a "C" in the rating (for "Compression" ignition), and that is what you get with 15w-40. Gassers can take 15w-40 or other grades, but diesel require 15w-40 or a good synthetic 10w-30, 10w-40, or 20w-50 oils such as Mobil1 with a "C" rating. I have a Kohler 27 HP runs on 15w-40 over 1000 hrs and going strong.

Altho the "15w" part, according to BITOG site ('bob is the oil guy') shows a viscosity table that indicates the 15w will work to -25*C. Colder than -25 and things change in a hurry. I live in S.
